Canvas headers are used because they are significantly stronger than nylon at the attachment points. The header is the portion of the flag that absorbs the most stress from wind, rope, clips, and hardware. Cotton canvas provides superior reinforcement and helps prevent tearing or pull-through at the grommets.
On 100% Made in the USA flags, the header canvas is specially treated for outdoor durability and designed specifically for flag construction. In normal outdoor use, it does not deteriorate from heat alone, even in high-temperature climates such as Florida. In fact, nylon would typically fail more quickly at these stress points than reinforced canvas.Using a canvas header is an industry standard for high-quality outdoor flags because it extends the life of the flag where it matters most.
